Shirani and Thilak Hapuarachchi Scholarship for Postgraduate Research in Anaesthesia & Critical Care.
This scholarship is intended to support advanced research in Anaesthesia and Critical care and is named after Drs Shirani and Thilak Hapuarachchi who dedicated their careers to training generations of anaesthetists and intensivists in Sri Lanka.
The aim is to promote research at the level of a Masters degree or PhD in Anaesthesia and Critical care among postgraduate trainees in Anaesthesia and Critical care in Sri Lanka.
Eligibility to apply for scholarship:
The applicant should be
- A citizen of Sri Lanka and registered as a medical practitioner in good standing with the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
- The candidate should have commenced training as a Registrar/ Senior registrar in Anaesthesiology or as a trainee for Post MD board certification in Critical Care Medicine with the PGIM, Sri Lanka.
- Academic and non-academic achievements of the applicant as well as the relevance of the area of research in fulfilling the objectives of the scholarship will be considered in awarding it.
Conditions for disbursement of full scholarship:
The maximum scholarship awarded per applicant would be 25% of the total un-disbursed funds lying to the credit of the scholarship fund.
The final tranche of the scholarship would be awarded on completion of the Masters degree or PhD thesis within 5 years of commencement of such research. The committee at its discretion may waive this requirement in exceptional circumstances.
The funds will be disbursed to the scholarship holder in instalments. The frequency and amount of such instalment will be agreed on by the committee in discussion with the recipient.
The scholarship maybe terminated by the committee in consultation with the Council of the College if in its opinion the scholarship holder violates the conditions laid down by the committee or the institution supervising the research project.
The recipient shall submit half yearly progress reports certified by the supervisors.
